Chapter 4: Forms

Form follows function—that has been misunderstood. Form and function should be one, joined in a spiritual union—Frank Lloyd Wright

While Frank Lloyd Wright may not have been referring to NAV Forms when he talked about form and function, what he said certainly applies to NAV systems. Forms are the window of the system through which the users can view the data in real time.

Forms and their functions must be one and the same to the users. If the forms bring attention to themselves rather than to the data that they expose or make harder for the users to see critical patterns and trends in the data, then the design has not been achieved as per Wright's goal of a "spiritual union".

In this chapter, we will explore the various types of forms that NAV offers you. We will review many of the options for formatting, for data access, and for tailoring your forms. We will also learn about the Form Designer tools and the inner structures of forms.
